Although Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a lowland rainforest, it ranges from an altitudes of 200m to 1300m. So some parts of the forest shows sub montane characteristics. Not only trees, many species of animals such as reptiles and amphibians are different than lowland species. Some animals found in highlands of Sinharaja Forest Reserve are point endemic.

Kurulugala entrance is very special among other entrances because it shows both characteristics what we can see in highlands and lowlands. Other special thing in Kuruluagala entrance is people can see and can get knowledge of transition of a forest.
